Children and Young People Now Awards, Putney. Wednesday 21st November.
On the road again with Curious Monkey and this time it wasn’t to showcase our skills but to potentially be awarded as a project for the work that we‘ve done with young people. North Tyneside Council’s Virtual School had nominated us for a Children and Young People Now awards in the Arts and Culture category, and we had been shortlisted.
Two of our young champions, along with Jane Pickthall the Head of North Tyneside’s Virtual School, our Artistic Director – Amy Golding and myself headed down to Putney in West London to a very plush and prestigious occasion where organisations working with children and young people were rewarded for ‘innovation and excellence’. In attendance there were a multitude of organisations from across the children and young people’s workforce who had delivered a wide range of projects and service to young people.
The event was very swish and we were given the red-carpet treatment with a champagne greeting and 3-course fine dining experience as TV presenter Zoe Salmon compered the evening while Alan Dedicoat, who is the ‘Voice of the Balls’ on the National Lottery and voice of Strictly Come Dancing, was on announcing duties for all the finalists.
Sadly, we didn’t win, but it was an honour to be shortlisted for the award and for the young people we work with to get the opportunity to have the experience of attending a high-profile event.
